Senior General Practice Registrar
Jonathan Attia is a Senior General Practice Registrar with an interest in both community and sports medicine. Jonathan attained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) after completing 6 years of undergraduate medical school at James Cook University. This involved 4 years studying in Townsville, and 2 years in a Rural Clinic School in Mackay, QLD. Jonathan is involved working towards attaining his Fellowship within the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), and works full- time at Sports Medicine Institute as part of his Extended Skills Training in Sport and Exercise Medicine. He currently serves as the Assistant Club Medical Officer for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the NRL, a position awarded to him through the “Dr Hugh Hazard NRL Fellowship” in 2024 by the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP).
In addition to his roles within rugby league, Jonathan served as the team doctor for Women’s Sydney FC in 2023-24 team, proudly accompanying them to their inaugural international appearance at the AFC Club Championship in Uzbekistan, as well as being part of the team that was crowned W-League Champions.
His role within the community extends to the Australian Powerlifting Alliance (APA), where he is a member of the Sports Science Sports Medicine (SSSM) Committee, contributing to improved healthcare access for community athletes and promoting fairness and anti-doping policies in sport.
His passion is deeply rooted in making elite sports medicine care accessible to community athletes. This drive has led him to invest in continuous professional development where he has successfully completed a Master of Sports Medicine (MSpMed) from The University of Queensland.
Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife and family, and playing guitar. He is an avid supporter of Chelsea Football Club, and will be thrilled to talk to you about the famous 2011-12 Champions League Final Victory against Bayern Munich.
