FRACS, MMIS, MSurgEd

Oseophago-Gastric, Bariatric and General Surgeon

The upper gastrointestinal (upper GI) system runs from the Oesophagus (food pipe) to Duodenum (first part of the small intestine). Most people will experience issues with their digestive health at some point, but not everyone will need surgery. ?Pathologies that patients encounter in this region include cancers, benign growths, gall stone related issues, acid reflux, hiatal hernias, diverticulae (out-pouching of the GI tract) and obesity (involves operating stomach and small bowel to reduce absorption and so lose weight)

Upper GI Surgeons are highly skilled, receiving training in general surgery, followed by upper GI surgery which has a focus on the upper abdominal organs. Some specialists have developed further skills in areas such as weight-loss surgery (bariatrics) and keyhole surgeries in addition.

With this in mind, Sports Medicine Institute brings together some of the best practitioners in their field, with one common goal, to utilise their expertise and experience for patients in the lead up to their procedures and during the rehabilitation phase. Our practitioners remain at the cutting edge of their field by regularly attending and presenting at conferences, as well contribution to research and education.
