Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) is a discipline of medicine that focuses on physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise.
Sport and Exercise Physicians are specialist medical practitioners in this field of medicine. They diagnose and treat any medical condition that regular exercisers or sports people encounter.
The majority of SEM treatment revolves around musculoskeletal injuries, being either acute (such as fractures, ligament, muscle and tendon tears) or chronic (such as stress fractures, tendinopathies, bursitis, etc.) however other medical conditions treated include diabetes, asthma, cardiac conditions, all forms of arthritis, as well as managing exercise during pregnancy.
Our Sport and Exercise Physicians have leading technology, processes, and the expertise to assist with your injury, including MRI scans, which can be bulk billed. Additionally, our Sport and Exercise Physicians aim to achieve a comprehensive management plan by incorporating the expertise of other health professionals to optimise your treatment outcome.
Exercise has many benefits including reducing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and depression. Due to these benefits Sports Medicine Physicians are strong advocates for promoting regular exercise, a balanced diet, and healthy lifestyle choices.
